Health and Safety

The primary responsibility of the district is the health and safety of the students. The district has a plan for earthquakes, fires, and intruders. Plans are only as good as the people in place, and their oversight over the individual sites. The plan should be known by everyone who needs that information: principals, teachers, office staff, classified, police, fire department and hospitals so that everyone is not only on the same page, but ready to act. The best defense against disasters is communication and practice.

Fiscal

Making sure taxpayer money is spent responsibly and always in the best interest of the students is obviously important. I have served the district in different capacities for many years: Chairman of The Professional Growth Committee, 3 Negotiating Teams, The Benefits Committee, among others, and have worked closely with several administrations. As a result of those responsibilities, I have an "insider's perspective" which will be invaluable.

Communication

Constant communication within the district: students, teachers, administration, and classified staff is extremely important. In addition, open communication with the community is vital to keeping the educational process going. We should all be involved in the education of the 22,000 children in our care. That takes understanding of the tasks, the process, the progress, and more importantly the clear understanding of the district vision that stands behind everything we do.
